DB Latest - October 2007

New timetable: bookings have just opened

New services after 9 December

The train timetable will change on 9 December and bookings opened on 1 November. It is now possible to book Deutsche Bahn's new night train connections and the existing ones, such as Paris - Munich and Brussels - Berlin/Hamburg. The night trains will operate under the single brand name City Night Line with 29 connections in nine European countries from 9 December. It is not only the night trains, which will expand their network, as the ICE too will operate in two more countries. In addition, national rail tickets will remain attractive as Deutsche Bahn has decided to extend the Germany Special for another year.

The ICE crosses two more borders

At the end of this year, Deutsche Bahn and ÖBB will operate direct ICE trains between Germany and Austria. The ICEs will run every two hours between Frankfurt and Vienna. The use of high-speed trains on this connection means, for example, that the travel time from Nuremberg to Vienna will be cut to just under 5 hours. To the north as well, the ICE is extending its horizons. For the first time, there will be a high-speed rail link between the capitals of Germany and Denmark. Once a day an ICE will run between Berlin and Copenhagen connecting the cities in less than 7 hours. Between Hamburg and Copenhagen there will be more frequent ICE and InterCity services.

Germany Special

Deutsche Bahn is extending the Germany Special, or in German the „Dauer Spezial“, by another year. This ticket is available for as little as EUR 29 and is valid for a single, 2nd class journey of any distance, anywhere in Germany, on IC, EC and ICE trains. It has to be booked at least 3 days in advance and is subject to availability. It can be purchased online or, for EUR 5 extra, either at a DB station or by calling the Deutsche Bahn UK Booking Centre. With a small surcharge for the reservation of a seat or a berth, this ticket is also valid on City Night Line services.
