DB Latest - April 2007

Frankfurt am Main - Paris: With the ICE in about 4 hours for £21

As of 10 June straight from Paris to Frankfurt and Stuttgart at up to 200 mph - Early bird sales started on 10 April - Journey time reduced by more than two hours

Deutsche Bahn AG introduced the prices for the new high-speed traffic between Germany and France. From 10 June, the ICE will connect Paris to Mannheim, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Frankfurt am Main at speeds of up to 200 mph. The French TGV trains will operate from Paris via Strasbourg to Stuttgart.

Early bird sales started on 10 April. The opening offer, the “Paris Special”, for journeys from Frankfurt, Mannheim or Stuttgart costs £21, including a seat reservation. Travel from Karlsruhe, Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern to Paris, costs just £14. The offer will be available on www.bahn.co.uk or www.bahn.ie, and at DB ticket machines. £3.60 will be added to the cost for bookings over the phone with the Deutsche Bahn UK Booking Centre or at the counter in Germany. This offer will be valid in 2nd class, for travel from Germany to Paris between 10 June and 31 August, and is subject to availability.

The normal fare for a single, second class journey is £71.30 for Paris – Frankfurt and £68.40 for Paris – Stuttgart. As of 10 June there will also be completely new opportunities to make savings. With the BahnCards 25, 50 and 100, customers will obtain a 25 per cent discount for the French section of their journey. And for the first time, the SparPrices 25 and 50 will apply as well. Fares for a return journey from Paris for one person without a BahnCard start from £71.30. An additional advantage of the SparPrices is the attractive discount of 50 per cent for up to four travel companions.

„The ICE is bringing Europe together. As of 10 June we will travel with the most modern trains in about four hours from Frankfurt to Paris. With us, customers will travel at speed and in comfort from inner city to inner city“, said Dr Nikolaus Breuel, chairman of the Board of DB Fernverkehr AG. „With this new connection, we are declaring our intention to expand in Europe.“

Besides the fast connections and attractive fares, the service too will set new standards: staff looking after travellers will speak English, German and French. The first class service will include a wide selection of newspapers, a taxi order service for Paris and a light meal at your seat on international journeys.

For the route Paris – Frankfurt the ICE will take four hours and 11 minutes. The TGV will run from Paris to Stuttgart in three hours and 40 minutes. This means that the travel time will have been reduced by more than two hours. When timetables change on 9 December, the connection will become faster still. The ICE will then reach the capital on the Seine from Frankfurt in three hours and 50 minutes.
