DB Latest - June 2007

Until end of 2007: take the ICE all over Germany for as little as £21

Sales begin on 10 June ● Hartmut Mehdorn: Unbeatable offer in view of high petrol price ● 750,000 journeys available every month ● DB also simplifies fare calculation

Travelling with Deutsche Bahn is now even cheaper. The new "Germany Special" ticket will be available for as little as £21 from 10 June till 28 December. The offer is valid for single 2nd-class journeys for any distance, all over Germany, for journeys made between 13 June and 31 December 2007.

"Many will be setting off on holiday over the next few months and many will now decide to travel with Deutsche Bahn, because in view of the current high petrol prices, our offer is simply unbeatable," commented Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Bahn AG. "The Germany Special ticket will attract new customers and continue our upswing of the past few years."

The Germany Special ticket is available for as little as £21 on the Internet at www.bahn.co.uk and from DB ticket-vending machines. Tickets cost an extra £3.60 if purchased at by telephone from the Deutsche Bahn UK Booking Centre at 08718 80 80 66. Tickets can be booked no earlier than three months and no later than three days before the date of travel.

The tickets are valid only on the specified train and available while stocks last. More tickets will be available for trains with poor seat load factors than for peak travel times on Fridays and Sundays. A total of 750,000 journeys will be available every month.

Passengers who wish to save time and travel overnight can combine a Germany Special ticket with the appropriate supplement for a seated, couchette or sleeping car passage on a DB Nachtzug or CityNightLine train.

As from 10 June, DB also simplified calculation of the standard fare for long-distance journeys, making its price system more transparent. The number of different fares for a journey between two given places has been substantially reduced and customers are able to use their tickets more flexibly. The average fare level does not change. Deutsche Bahn is simplifying the system in response to requests from passenger associations.
